I feel that the other reviews posted may be a bit generous on their rating; yes the car is pretty good, but nowhere near great!

I have the ecoFLEX model, with Start/Stop, and it does give impressive fuel economy, but I doubt it is market leading. The interior is certainly the best feature; a good design and the materials do not feel cheap, but I just feel let down by other elements of the car.

I don't think the build quality is particularly great, certainly not up to the standards of the leading German rivals. I find the handling a bit suspect, and although the ride is smooth, it just lacks responsiveness. Lastly, I have already had a call-back from Vauxhall, which is never reassuring!

I certainly think I will look at alternatives for my next family hatchback.

5 Stars A thoroughly enjoyable drive 31/01/12

My Astra doesn’t really get close to the 62mpg that is advertised even though I am a very cautious driver – both on and off the motorway, but I really don’t mind as the car is such an enjoyable drive. I drive up and down the country all week and I am still not fed up of driving it and it sits very comfortably in cruise control on the motorway. It’s also very quiet and sturdy, which is a must when spending a lot of time behind the wheel; I would 100% recommend this vehicle to anybody that spends a lot time on the road - especially if you go for comfort.

5 Stars Amazing! :) 27/06/11

The new Astra is a great vehicle.

After driving the car for over a year now I am in no hurry to change, the new design of the cabin makes it spacious and luxurious.

I have the 1.7 CDTi SRi which is fantastic on diesel which is perfect for me, as I commute to and from work 5 days a week, due to the amount of time I spend in this car the new design provides a very comfortable and enjoyable ride.

If you are looking for a mid size vehicle this is definitely the car to go for.....GREAT MOTOR!

3 Stars Good little car! 11/08/10

Really like what they have down with the new shape. It was a pleasure to see that they did not stop with redesign of the outside, as the cabin was revamped with new dials and trims. The 1.7 diesel engine was acceptable, but if you required a car with a bit of grunt, you won't be disappointed with the 1.9. The equipement on the SRi is okay as standard, but I have enjoyed the upgrade in Sat Nav, Leather and bluetooth.
If you want a car that looks good and performs in all departments, this is your car.

5 Stars More dynamic than Batman & Robin......... 15/07/10

There aren\'t many things nowadays designed and built in Britain, but this is one of them and I\'m pleased to say the new Astra is a credit to us! Designed by Vauxhall - rather than GM or Opel - and built at Ellesmere Port, this is a British car from start to finish and has been designed for our market and our roads.......potholes and all!!

Not only does the new Astra look a million times better than it\'s dreary predecessor, it is better, markedly. The design takes what is good on Insignia and moves it to the next level, the build quality is better, the cabin format is clean, concise and stylish, but the best part of this new Astra is the drive. This car doesn\'t drive like a Vauxhall of old and more importantly it doesn\'t drive like its competitors. The engines are responsive, the brakes are sharp and the suspension is agile - you can tell this car was designed for our bendy, bumpy roads and not for the straight, flat continental roads that the likes of the Golf and A3 were.

So, would I have this car over a Golf or an A3? Pound for Pound, yes I would, it’s hugely better value – I’d even have it over the Merc I have at the moment! I could be driving a responsive petrol or diesel Astra SRi for less money than a sluggish, bobby basic Golf or A3. And the cherry on top...........it’s a British car!!
