All New Land Rover DC100 Concept Launches the Defender into the 21st Century
Created Date: 04/10/2011
Land Rover revealed the Defender of the future at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2011, in the shape of the all-new Land Rover DC100 Concept. Hot on the heels of the Range Rover Evoque, World-leading all-terrain technologies, hi-tech materials and cutting edge design come together to complement and enhance the original Defender’s core functionality, capability and usability.
It is a huge development with sustainability at its core, and one that projects the Defender into the 21st century with a new world of possibilities. The concept is definitely creative while still maintaining the boxy shape and the vertical door handles of the iconic Defender, the front clip combines both old and new by placing classic round headlamps in a swept, contoured fascia. According to Gerry McGovern, the Director of Design at Land rover "Replacing the iconic Defender is one of the biggest challenges in the automotive design world; it is a car that inspires people worldwide, This isn't a production-ready concept but the beginning of a four-year journey to design a relevant Defender for the 21st century."
Just as fiat re-imaged the 500, Volkswagen the Beetle and Mini the Cooper Hatchback, land rover might be able to find one of its greatest successes in this very modern concept for a new Defender. However far this unique vehicle has come, its shape and stance would be instantly recognizable anywhere in the world - capturing the inherent simplicity and reassurance of the original short-wheelbase Land Rover. Created for the next generation, Land Rover’s DC100 design undeniably demonstrates that it has the capability to take you places no other vehicle can.
