Lexus Plans Small Hybrid for New GS
Created Date: 21/11/2011
Lexus has revealed their plan to build a small hybrid engine for their new luxury car, the 2012 Lexus GS which was revealed earlier in the year. The small hybrid engine is been developed to allow the new GS luxury compete with its rivals like models like the BMW 520d and the Audi A6 2.0 TDI. Although no specific details have been provided about the engine, it is likely to be a four-cylinder petro; engine attached to an electric motor, the predicted power output is about 180bhp.
According to Lexus Koji Sato, deputy chief engineer, product planning “The new engine will boast fuel economy and CO2 emissions on a par with the BMW 520d, so expect the model to emit around 120g/km of CO2 and return around 50mpg.
With low emission bringing about considerable benefits in fuel economy and notable savings in tax, this new hybrid engine might just attract more UK and Europe sales. Lexus plans to launch the new GS by next summer, the only models that will be available include the GS450h with a 338bhp 3.5-litre V6 hybrid and the GS250 with a 206bhp 2.5-litre V6.
