The FT 86 Concept Revealed as Toyota GT 86 - 2011 Tokyo Motor Show
Created Date: 28/11/2011
The official release of the production version of Toyota’s GT 86 has been a long time coming since the FT 86 concept was first released at 2009 Tokyo Motor show. The production version will be debuted later this week at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show.
Previously known as the FT 86, the new Toyota GT 86 is a result of collaboration between Toyota and Subaru. The direct injection system for the car was provided by Toyota while the 2.0 –litre flat –four boxer engine which produces 197hp and 7,000rpm was provided by Subaru. The engine produces 151lb ft of torque at 6,600rpm which powers the rear wheels. There will be two gear options a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic operated by paddle-shifts.
Other features of the new Toyota GT 86 include 17-inch alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, twin exhausts and a "86" piston logo. It is a 4.2 metres long car. The interior features a 365mm steering wheel (the smallest ever fitted to a Toyota), all-black roof lining, red stitching on the upholstery, aviation-style rocker switches, aluminium pedals, carbon-effect trim and a three-meter instrument cluster which is placed around a big rev-counter. Toyota plans to make a coupe version of the car with a '2+2' seating
Subaru’s version of the GT 86 is called the BRZ; it will look completely different from Toyota’s version. From the pictures, we observed the production version looks very much like the concept which was revealed two years ago. It will be available in UK show rooms by June 2012; the prices will start from £28,000.
