All New Five-door Volkswagen Up - Details and Availability Revealed

Created Date: 23/01/2012

Volkswagen Up has garnered a lot of praise from auto industry experts this year including winning the What Car? 2012 Car of the year award. Volkswagen has raised the bar even further with the new five-door Volkswagen Up as the latest addition to the New Small Family - Volkswagen's internal name for the model series.

The new five-door Volkswagen Up will be built with engines (44 kW / 60 PS and 55 kW / 75 PS) and equipments identical to that of the three-door Up. With the introduction of 2 extra doors, the physical appearance of the car has changed slightly, offering even more interior space with a rear headroom length of 947mm and front headroom of 993mm. The additional doors and the styling of the C pillars are the most obvious differences when compared with the three-door Volkswagen Up. On the three-door Up the shoulder line and windows ascend towards the rear near the C-pillars while on the five-door Up the shoulder line and the windows form a straight line giving a more upright appearance.

The seats of the five-door Up are positioned higher giving the passengers at the back seat a better view over the shoulders of the driver and the front passenger. The same optional features available for the three-door Up are available for the five-door Up including the City Emergency Braking, maps+more (a portable navigation and infotainment system with touchscreen). Other features include a navigation system, a hands-free telephone unit, an informational display of various vehicle parameters and a media player.

The new five-door Volkswagen Up will be at dealers on 12th of May and will be available for advanced booking from 6th March 2012 (both dates for Germany). It will be launched to the entire European market by early summer 2012.
